LAKE TOBA

In Sumatra area, there lived a very hard-working farmer. He lived alone by himself. Everyday he worked at farm lading and looking for fish without knowing tired. He did these things to meet his everyday needs.

One day that farmer went to the river nearby where he lived, he intended to fish for his side dish that day. Only armed with hook, bait and a bucket for the fish, he went directly to the river. After he arrived at the river, that farmer threw his fishhook immediately. While waiting for his hook to be eaten by the fish, that farmer prayed’ “ O Alloh, I wished I will get loads of fish today”. A few moments after prayed, the fishhook which he threw earlier seemed to be wiggling. He immediately pulled his hook. The farmer was very happy, because the fish which he caught was huge and very beautiful.

After a few moments looking at the fish which he caught, the farmer was very astonished. Apparently, the fish which he caught was able to talk. “Please, don’t eat me, Pak (Sir)! Please, let me live”, shouted the fish. Without many questions, he put back into the water again the fish which he caught. After returning the fish into the water,  the farmer even more surprised because all of a sudden the fish transformed into a very beautiful woman.

“Don’t be afraid Pak, I won’t hurt you”, said the fish. “Who are you? You are a fish, aren’t you?, asked the farmer. “ I am a princess which was accursed, because violated the palace rules”, answered the woman. “Thank you, you have freed me from that cursed, and as a reward I am willing to be your wife”, said that woman. The farmer was agreed. So, they were married as a husband and wife. However, there was a promised that previously had been agreed upon, of which they can’t tell that the origin of the woman was from a fish. If the promised were broken then there will be a powerful catastrophe.

After some time they got married, finally the happiness of the farmer and his wife were added because the farmer’s wife gave birth to a baby boy. Their child grown to be very handsome and strong, but there was a habit which made everybody wondered. That child always feeling hungry, and never feeling full. He ate all the food without any left over.

Until one day, the farmer’s child got an errand from his mother to bring some food and drink to the farm where his father was working. But, he never fulfilled his duty. All the food which must been for his father he gobble up until finished, and after that he fell asleep in a hut. While holding thirst and hunger, the farmer was waiting for his child arrival. Because can’t hold his hunger any longer, so he went home right away. In the middle of the way, the farmer saw his child was sleeping in a hut. The farmer woke him up immediately. “Hey, wake up!, shouted the farmer.

After his child woke up, the farmer asked about his food straightaway. “Where is father’s food?”, asked the farmer. “Has been eaten by me”, answer the child. With his loud voice the farmer scolded his child directly. “What's an ungrateful child! Don’t know oneself! A child of a fish! Cursed the farmer without realizing it he already said that taboo words from his wife.

After the farmer said these words, at that moments his child and his wife disappeared without any trace. From their footstep lapsed, suddenly spurted some water very heavily. The water was overflowed very high and wide which then formed a pool. And finally formed a lake. The lake eventually was known as LAKE TOBA (Danau Toba).
